Devonalds Solicitors have teamed up with ‘SHOUT’, the Bridgend Over 50’s group, to give pensioners containers of special salt to sprinkle over their paths and driveways during icy conditions. The project, called ‘Shake The Salt’, aims to make senior citizens feel less isolated as temperatures drop.

Devonalds Solicitors have recently opened a new Bridgend office in the impressive and historic building at 10 Dunraven Place, Bridgend, CF31 1JD and are building on their community links already established throughout South Wales. The shakers are available for over 50’s to collect free of charge from Devonalds Solicitors at the Dunraven Place office. They will also be distributed to members of ‘SHOUT’ at their monthly meetings at Evergreen Hall, Angel Street, Bridgend.

The re-sealable shakers are made by Ezi-Melt in Abercynon, and contain pure white, non-staining marine salt, which can be sprinkled on steps and pathways to quickly melt frost, snow and ice. Grant Lloyd, sales director of Ezi-Melt, produced the initial salt shakers free of charge.

Bridgend Council will be working hard throughout the winter to grit the roads and clear any snow, but driveways and steps at home often remain untreated. The project hopes to prevent nasty falls and help vulnerable Bridgend residents who struggle to tackle steep paths and outdoor stairwells.

Helen Shaw, secretary of ‘SHOUT’ said: “It is great to be able to offer these potentially lifesaving shakers to local people in the Bridgend area. We would like to thank Ezi Melt for providing the shakers and Devonalds Solicitors for helping us to distribute them to the public”

Joel Evans, Solicitor at Devonalds said: “In the winter months older people can suffer slips and serious injuries, and can also become isolated at home due to the fear of icy conditions outside. The shakers can help prevent slips and injuries and also give vulnerable people more confidence to get out of the house on cold days.”

Devonalds Solicitors can be contacted on 01656 665022 or by email at bridgend@devonalds.co.uk and SHOUT can be contacted on 07891 834230.
